Why Weight is an adult oriented, group weight management program designed to help members ACHIEVE and MAINTAIN their health and fitness goals.  It integrates the lifestyle changes, in both food and exercise, that are essential for successful long term weight management.

Weekly sessions are both informative and interactive as participants progress toward their individual goals. The class meets weekly for ten weeks. There are beginning, continuing and maintenance classes to choose from.

The ten week session includes complete access to La Camarilla's two weight rooms, cardio equipment, extensive group fitness schedule (includes aerobics, yoga, spinning, mat pilates classes), 25 meter 6-lane pool, tennis and racquetball courts.

Researchers have found that those who adhere to a program managed to keep off more weight than those who tried to drop pounds on their own.

The Why Weight program is taught and facilitated by Franne Wilk R.D., registered dietitian and fitness instructor. She is originally from New York and received her degree in Dietietics from Purdue University. Franne's diverse experience includes clinical dietetics, food-service management and nutrition education. Her expertise is adult weight management. She works with individuals and groups, coaching people to improve their well-being through nutrition and fitness.

Cost is only $180 for the ten week session.  Non-members pay an additional $20 fee.

Here's an actual interview with Sharon Cohen, a La Camarilla member and Franne's student.

1. Have you tried other programs?
Sharon: Yes, I've been to Weight Watchers, tried the Atkins Diet, South Beach Diet, as well as every other nationally recognized diet program. I've even been to a hypnotist and had acupuncture.

2. Why did our "Why Weight Program" work for you while all others failed?
Sharon: The difference is Franne Wilk. Other programs have 30 to 40 people and deal in masses. Franne's groups are small (8 to 10) and she makes each and every person important and a personal challenge. She even gives us her home phone to call if we need help or advice.

3. Have you lost weight?
Sharon: I've lost 22 pounds over the past 4 to 5 months and feel great. I'm actually 1/2 pound under my target as set by me and Franne.

4. How do you compare the professionalism and quality of Why Weight vs the nationally recognized programs?
Sharon: Franne is the best. Knowledgeable, interesting, realistic and truly interested in the success of each participant. She works hand in hand, personally with each and every client. Franne' wealth of good information allows for informed decisions and more options and answers. Other programs, impersonal, mass numbers and generally not as caring.

5. If you were a spokesman for Why Weight and I was a prospective client, what would you tell me?

Sharon: Why Weight is better than all because everything is explained thoroughly. Time is taken and all questions are answered and encouraged. We're not just told to diet and exercise, we're shown how to eat properly and the many forms of exercise that can be tailored to our interests and capabilities. All in all Franne is the best for weight control/loss because it's a planned way of life not difficult different, impossible task or regiment. You not only know what to do, you also know the why.

"Marilyn's" Why Weight Success Story"
Marilyn Campbell tried to lose weight in the past by not eating and trying the starvation route. It just didn't work. While reading the club newsletter she saw a testimonial from a member enrolled in our "Why Weight?" Program and decided to give it a try.
Marilyn loved the program and found immediate success as she has gone from 164 lbs to her present 130 lbs in less than 8 months. This is an impressive 34 pound weight loss along with loss of body fat and a gain in muscle mass. In fact she was told by her trainer not to lose any more weight!!! Marilyn also won the Holiday Hustle Award for the most body fat lost in 2 months.

She said the real difference was our program and registered dietitian Franne Wilk who runs the counseling sessions. Franne says the 1st step is to make the commitment to stick with it no excuses. There is no bad food, however, your goal should be nutritionally dense food (according to Franne). Don't eat food with empty calories. Franne showed us how to eat correctly along with types of food to eat and proper portion control. We were even taught how to order off of restaurant menus.
We were always told there is no magic formula but if you do what she tells, you then you will lose weight Franne offers new tips every week and Marilyn felt these tips were another key to her success. One thing she has stayed with is keeping a food diary so she can keep on track with eating correctly and not over eating.

The other very important component was exercising. Students are told to find something in exercise they enjoy and just do it every day. Marilyn was intimidated with the club's weight rooms and she said Franne really broke down that barrier for everyone by taking them into the weight room and introducing them to Frederic who then gave them an orientation.
Franne also helped introduce her to Spinning and took the time to set her up on a bike and had her come to her own class where she felt more at ease with Franne keeping an eye on her. She found she really enjoyed Spinning and has continued with it as her cardio exercise.

Marilyn also joined Body Buddies with Kathy Evenson-Howard and has found that a great way to improve her muscle tone. With the help of the small group classes in Body Buddies she has stuck with it and really enjoys her workouts. Marilyn has made the commitment, offered no excuses and feels so much better now both physically and mentally.
